Nieuwsbrief rechtsgeschiedenis – januari 2009
Woord vooraf
Geachte lezer, 2008 was een vruchtbaar jaar voor de rechtsgeschiedenis en 2009 belooft dat ook te worden. Hier in Gent werken we naarstig aan het colloquium over The history of civil and criminal justice in Belgium and neighbouring countries: new perspectives dat, in samenwerking met de collega’s uit Louvain-la-Neuve, zal doorgaan op 5 en 6 februari, maar er zijn nog zoveel andere initiatieven die de moeite waard zijn en zelfs, zoals u verder kan lezen, eentje waarbij men de tropen met de vaderlandse rechtsgeschiedenis kan combineren. De activiteiten van de rechtshistorici blijven overigens ook buiten ons wereldje niet onopgemerkt. Zo is het op einde van 2008 de Ius Commune prijs uitgereikt. Ook al ging die niet naar een rechtshistoricus, toch valt op dat de rechtsgeschiedenis een meer dan eervolle vermelding kreeg vanwege de jury: “There were submissions from the field of legal history which attracted welcome attention.... Such a paper on legal history: a study on human rights influences in post-WW II collaboration cases in Belgium certainly proved to be an irresistible read in 2008.” (Nota van de redactie: de jury verwijst hiermee naar onze collega Koen Aerts. Mooi gedaan, Koen.) De jury van de Ius Commune Prijs heeft nog een belangrijke raad voor ons: “in this respect the connection with the continuing debate concerning the issues discussed in those papers could be made more explicit and thereby strengthened: legal history deserves its place in present-day debates”. PIKKEMAAT, J.G.B. (ed.), The Old Library of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, Hilversum, Verloren, 2008, 116 p. + CD-ROM, ISBN 978-90-8704-071-0 (€ 20,-) This book is devoted to the collection of old printed books housed in the Supreme Court’s library. This collection came into being in 1795 when the libraries of the Court of Holland and Zeeland and the Supreme Court of Holland and Zeeland were joined. A number of books from this collection were handed over to the Provincial Court of Zeeland in 1803, and in 1856 a large number of archivalia and non-legal volumes were transferred to the National Archives. This book describes the history of the Supreme Court’s old printed books and the collections to which they belonged originally. The meaning of contemporary Dutch jurisprudence and that of legal literature in the Supreme Court’s everyday practice are also discussed. The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM, containing both the 1988 catalogue of books held by the library and a transcription by Prof. De Smidt of the handwritten catalogue from 1851.

è 30 jaar UNA (University of the Netherlands Antilles)
Op 12 januari 2009 viert de UNA haar 30 jarig bestaan. Het jaar 2009 zal in het teken staan van dit lustrum. Voor de Juridische Faculteit is bovendien van belang dat 40 jaar geleden de eerste steen is gelegd voor de Rechtshogeschool en 140 jaar geleden in de toenmalige kolonie Curaçao de Burgerlijke- en Strafwetgeving is ingevoerd. Weetjes è BOEKEN ZOEKEN NIEUW BAASJE Bart Coppein (KULeuven) doet een warme oproep aan éénieder die het aanbelangt om gratis boeken te komen halen van Standen en Landen. Naar zeggen gaat het om een grote stock die hij aan de straatstenen niet meer kwijtgeraakt. Geïnteresseerden kunnen deze weesjes komen ophalen voor vrijdag 16 januari aanstaande.
